How to Play Bass for Beginners - The Virtual DVD

How to Play Bass for Beginners Virtual DVD

The idea for a Virtual DVD on How to Play The Bass for Beginners came about as an email response to a review of the HAL LEONARD BASS METHOD DVD. Here's what I wrote as an introduction:

I’m going to imagine that I’ve been asked to author a DVD on How to Play Bass for Beginners. This 'virtual' DVD will introduce a series of lessons that will sequentially walk through the topics I think should go on a DVD for newbies who want to pick up the bass guitar. Each post will have a short video to accompany it - which I will post on YouTube and then use the embed code so that it appears with each post. So that way as well as reading about each topic you’ll be able to watch a video lesson to see/hear exactly what I’m talking about.

What I’d like to achieve with my ‘virtual’ DVD is to imagine a beginner being able to watch all the lessons, understand the principles I’m teaching, apply them to his own bass, and be playing a few songs in a short space of time.

And here's the table of contents:

Lesson 1: How to tune the bass
Lesson 2: Finding your way around the fingerboard
Lesson 3: Right Hand technique
Lesson 4: Left Hand technique
Lesson 5: Putting it together: Your first song: Every Breath You Take
Lesson 6: Some thoughts on practicing
Lesson 7:Song 2: Don’t Look Back in Anger
Lesson 8: Song 3: Message in a Bottle
Lesson 9: Song 4: Another One Bites the Dust
Lesson 10: Song 5: Come As You Are
Lesson 11: Where to go from here
Lesson 12: Final Words
