Other Content
As well as the List of Song Tutorials there is a host of other content on the How To Play Bass website.
Below are a number of topics, with the description linked to that topic's Index Page.
Band In A Box is hands down one of the best tools to practice the bass with. There are so many things you can do with band in a box. I've created some step by step screencast videos to help people learn how to use Band In A Box.
Virtual DVD
The 'Virtual DVD' was the first series of videos I ever filmed for YouTube. The goal was to film a series that a total beginner could use to go from learning how to tune the bass, to holding it correctly, to picking notes correctly, to finding his way around the bass, to playing his first songs.
There's some great content in the DVD videos - but be warned, the production values of the videos is extremely basic.
Articles
Over the last 18 months or so I've written some articles of interest to Bass Players. Some of them can be found on my Deliberate Practice Blog - and some of them can be found here.
Play Bass In 50 Songs
Play Bass in 50 Songs was the original spine of my Online Bass Lessons. With the discovery and use of Deliberate Practice though that will be updated in the near future...
My 5 Favourite Bass Players
Here's a list of my 5 Favourite Bass players, along with some seminal recordings and some other info...
Bass Practice
This series of articles were the forerunners of the research that led to the writing of my book Deliberate Practice. They are a good place to start if you are serious about getting better.
Bass Techniques
Here's a detailed look at basic left and right hand bass technique.
Bass Book Reviews
There are a ton of bass books around - I've got most of them! This section is where I'll review them from time to time....(Note: I generally review books I like, there's so much negativity in the world that i don't like reviewing something that I think is crappy and trashing it.)
Bass DVD Reviews
As with bass books, so with DVDs. And what I wrote above holds true here too....
Index Of Bass Player Magazine
Bass Player Magazine is a fantastic resource - it's been going since 1990. Since approximately the mid 90s they've regularly been producing accuracte transcriptions (with tab) too. It's difficult to know what exactly they've released though - their own website isn't particularly well organized.
So I've decided to index all my Bass Player Magazines (um...every single one of them. This project has stalled recently due to other commitments, but is scheduled to start up again.)
