Drop D Tuning For Bass Guitar

What Is Drop D Tuning? Here's a Video Article that outlines what Drop D Tuning is and demonstrates how to do it.

What Is Drop D Tuning?

Drop D Tuning is an alternative tuning.

There are many different alternative tunings, Drop D is perhaps the most common. Drop D tuning is realised by detuning the 'E' string to the note 'D.'

How Do You Do Drop D Tuning?

It's demonstrated in the video, but in a nutshell what you do is fret the 7th fret of the E string and then sound the open A string, and then the E string. Obviously these two notes are different. Whilst keeping the note on the E string still fretted, reach over with your RIGHT hand and detune the E string until the two pitches match.

Or you can do this by fretting the 12th fret of the E string and then sound the open D string. Then sound the E string at the 12th Fret and reach over with your RIGHT hand again and detune the E string until the two pitches match.

Both methods will result in Drop D tuning.
