Building Basslines- Lesson 2OK in Lesson 1 of the Building Basslines series we looked at a basic I:IV (one-four) progression in the key of C, that we played with just root notes and in an 8th note rhythm. In this lesson we're going to look at playing three 8 bar progressions - still using the basic I:IV progression, but variations of them, and playing them in different keys. Here's the Lesson video:
Here's the first progression, this is in the key of Ab and is built up of two bars of the I chord, and two bars of the IV chord.
Here's the second progression. This is in the key of Bb and is built up of one bar of the I chord, one bar of the IV chord and two bars of the I chord.
The third progressions is in the key of F and is built up of two bars of the I chord, one bar of the IV chord and another bar of the I chord.
So if you've got Band in A Box, type in the chord progression above select a style (in the video I used a style called 'ZZHeavyRock')and tempo and press play. And don't forget to mute the bass on band in a box! So now you've got a ready made backing track to practice with! In Lesson 3 we'll look at a different progression - the I:IV:V (the one-four-five) - which you'll already know the sound of (it's the foundation of the blues...) and we'll introduce a new note choice - the Octave.
